Letter of Utopia
April 7, 1779
Dear Citizens of Vision,
Many newspapers have joined together to protest the tyranny that has overtaken our government. Yet, many more are still controlled by the government and by LilyPad Enterprises. Some have been bribed, some coerced, still others have been blackmailed. It seems as if LilyPad Enterprises is leveraging its power and authority to help the government. Why it is doing that, and not providing food is a mystery. After all, the famine still sweeps across the land. Though fewer are starving, we are still in trouble. Our government should be fixing it and easing our struggles.
One of the main problems that we face is that to those who read the Letters of Utopia, the Morning Star, and the Daily Blurb it seems as if public opinion is against the government. This is sadly not the case. After these two papers went underground, it became understandably harder to find them. Many simply believe that they disappeared. Without loyal newspapers such as these two, many people turned towards other newspapers. Almost all other newspapers are influenced by LilyPad Enterprises. Most people are reading propaganda. This has become problematic. Many people have been spoon-fed lies and have been stomped into the ground. It appears as if we must win over the hearts and minds of the populace pf Vision if we wish to save Vision.
But, all hope is not lost. I know that many people read these letters. Many times have I encouraged you to fight for your freedoms. Many times have you listened. I have shown both my loyalty and my usefulness. So I know that many people who have been deceived by our government will read this letter. And so, to you who have blindly listened to our government, I encourage you to think for yourself. Look closely at your government. Not all that they say is true. If you can see beyond the lies then you may once again be revolutionaries.
Now I must come to the unpleasant topic of death and punishment. The old government, the first one, wronged many of you. I understand that as I was one of the ones who pointed it out to you. But that does not mean that you should demand vengeance. Mordon Genette is a person just like you. His mistakes have already happened and he has seen the error of his ways. At least, that is what he has said and I am inclined to believe him. He has also said that he is willing to accept justice, just not the justice of a mob. He does not deserve death. I know you want justice, but blood is not a good recompense.
Vision is not a land of heroes, nor is it a land if villains. It is the land of the people. For it has been the people who have charted its course. Vision is not a place that can be constrained by one man or even one government. It is not a place where one person can make the rules. Instead, it is a place of the people. If we want to change, we the people must all rise up as one. We the people must work together. We the people must reclaim Vision as their own. For we are the true heroes of Visions. But, unless we can change, it is we who will be the true villains of Vision.
