Update: Web Stories
I’ve decided to start giving updates on the weeks when I don’t publish an installment in my serial. These updates will all pertain to either writing or my life as a writer. I hope that my updates will help you get to know me and keep you informed about any changes in my writing/scheduling.
___
My first update is about a new feature called Google web stories. These web stories appear to be Google’s answer to Instagram stories and Tik-tok. These web stories will contain images in a slideshow, similar to the aforementioned Instagram stories. After all, the way we interact with content has changed. Many people are turning towards easily accessible bitesize content.
Knowing this, Google has started to push these web stories pretty hard, allowing bloggers and content creators to make their own. Web stories appear on Google images, and as a section under the main Google search. But they may appear elsewhere. Currently, the WordPress plug-in that Google themselves have made is still in their beta phase. They may add more functionality in the future.
These web stories are viewable from the search page without entering the website. This is a way to simply receive easy-to-access information. Now, you may be wondering how this will affect EdgeofStory given that I don’t provide facts and information, instead dealing in fiction short stories aimed at teens and adults. The answer is that I’m not sure. I have a few ideas (or example Comics or flash fiction) but I’m not sure. For now, I will be using Google web stories as a way to make trailers for my serials. I will also be doing retrospectives when a serial is finished.
